My 5 step anti-aging morning skin care routine
Lets talk skincare!
Nighttime skin routines have been taught to us ladies since we were little girls. How many times have you heard “Don’t go to bed with your makeup on”? The morning skin care routine does not gain as much attention but is equally as important in my opinion. It helps wake you up and prep your skin for the day. Skin prep is one of the best things you can do before you put on your makeup because it is going to give you a nice clean canvas. It’s important that you apply your steps in the correct order. You want to apply from the thinnest layer to the heaviest layer. Thinner products cant penetrate heavier products!
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleansing helps to wake up the skin and remove dead skin cells. I start with Tatcha’s The Deep Cleanse. This cleanser contains a natural fruit exfoliant that helps turn over dead skin cells and unclog your pores. Your pores appear larger as you age. I tend to navigate towards anything that will help minimize the appearance and keep my skin feeling soft and hydrated!
Step 2: Toner
Toners help replenish the skin as well as help prime your skin for other ingredients to be absorbed later.
I use Kopari’s Coconut rose toner. Not only does it have a cooling effect on my skin that leaves it feeling refreshed, it also smells amazing. This toner helps reduce redness, evens out your skin tone and helps restore your skins natural pH balance. Did I mention, it smells amazing? You can also spritz it on throughout the day for a quick pick me up!
Step 3: Serum
Next up is a vitamin C serum to help firm and brighten my skin. Serums give your skin a dose of highly concentrated nutrients that help invigorate the skin. I have been using the Olehenriksen’s Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum. This helps combat dark spots, pores and wrinkles while it increases brightness and luminosity to the skin.
Step 4: Eye Cream
I like to apply my eye cream with the Sonic Awakening Eye Massager attachment from Clarisonic. I use this with Drunk Elephants C- Tango multivitamin eye cream. The eye massager attachment helps reduce eye-puffiness, smooth crows feet and reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eye.
Step 5: Moisturizer
Your skin needs moisturizer and lots of it! Not only does it hydrate your skin but it also acts as a barrier to lock in all the products underneath making the ingredients more effective. Currently I am using Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil. This oil is nutrient dense and Marula is a carrier oil that helps other ingredients penetrate better into the skin
Step 5: SPF
Finish up with sunscreen! Sunscreen goes after the oil because it is not put on to penetrate your face, it is there to protect your face. The bare minimum you need on your face is SPF 30. I use Supergoop’s SPF 50 setting mist. Say yes to fighting against premature aging!
